The Chairman of the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, has recently initiated the construction of a N250 million administrative block and a conference room at the Al-qalam University in Katsina State.
This project is part of the 2023 Tertiary Education Grant Scheme (TEGS) by ASR Africa, which aims to support 22 tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
During the groundbreaking ceremony in Katsina, Dr. Ubon Udoh, the Managing Director of ASR Africa, emphasized the importance of education as a transformative sector for the nation.
He reiterated the commitment of ASR Africa to continuously supporting quality education within the tertiary education system in Nigeria and Africa.
Al-qalam University was selected as one of the beneficiaries of the TEGS grant, worth N259 million, after scoring highly in the rigorous selection criteria. The project is expected to be completed within six months.
Dr. Udoh highlighted the ASR Africa initiative as a $100 million philanthropic fund dedicated to the development of health, education, and social sectors within Africa.
He also praised Abdul Samad Rabiu for his generous contributions to various educational institutions across the nation and beyond.
The university management was commended for their cooperation with the ASR Africa infrastructure team, which ensured the smooth initiation of the project through prompt feedback and required documentation.
Prof. Nasiru Yauri, the Vice Chancellor of the University, expressed gratitude towards the Chairman of ASR Africa, the BUA Group, and Abdul Samad Rabiu for selecting their institution as a grant recipient.
He emphasized that the construction of the administrative block and conference room is a priority for the university, particularly in light of the upcoming launch of its College of Allied Health Sciences for the 2023/2024 academic year.
This development marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to improve and transform the education landscape in Nigeria, with a focus on enhancing the quality of tertiary education and promoting academic excellence.
