Borno Governor Zulum Flags Off Distribution of Food Items to 100,000 Families

In a bid to alleviate the economic hardship faced by the people of Borno State, Governor Babagana Zulum has recently flagged off the distribution of food items to over 100,000 households in Maiduguri and its environs.

The initiative comes at a time when the rising costs of food items and other essential commodities have greatly impacted the lives of the citizens.

During the event, held at the Maiduguri Sports Centre, each of the 100,000 households received a bag of 25kg rice and another bag of 25kg maize.

Governor Zulum emphasized the need for continued support to the people and reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the people, especially those facing extreme hardship as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency.

The governor acknowledged that the current economic hardship is not only a local issue but a global crisis.

He also assured the people that the distribution of the palliative would be scaled up to reach over 200,000 families across the state, including seven local government areas in southern Borno.

While the government’s efforts in distributing food items are commendable, Governor Zulum also urged the people, particularly those who do not have a means of livelihood, to engage in agriculture.

He promised that the government would provide all the needed supports, including free buses, agricultural inputs, and cash support.

Furthermore, the governor warned that his administration would not tolerate anyone sabotaging its efforts in peacebuilding.

He stressed that anyone who takes the law into their own hands and politicizes the food crisis would be dealt with ruthlessly.

The food distribution exercise by the Borno State government is a significant step towards addressing the food crisis in the region.

By providing support to the most vulnerable members of the society, the government is taking a proactive approach to reduce the burden of the high cost of living in the metropolis.
