BEDC Worker Tragically Electrocuted in Delta: A Community’s Loss

An employee of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) was tragically electrocuted while carrying out repairs on a 33KVA line in the Evwreni community of Ughelli North Local Government Area in Delta State.

The deceased, identified only as Kingsley, was in the process of reconnecting a damaged cable on the high-tension line that supplies electricity to Uwheru, Patani, Bomadi, and other communities in the state when the tragedy occurred.

A source from the Evwreni community, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that the restoration of electricity to the high-tension pole on which Kingsley was working led to his untimely death.

The loss of the BEDC staff member has deeply affected the Evwreni community, as he was well-known and respected in the area.

The BEDC Public Relations Officer, Evelyn Gbiwen, was unavailable for comment, as she was on leave and had not been briefed about the incident.

This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by utility workers and the importance of prioritizing safety measures to prevent such tragic accidents from happening in the future.

The loss of a dedicated worker like Kingsley is a great loss not only to the BEDC but to the entire community that benefited from his service.

As the community mourns the loss of one of their own, it is crucial to remember the sacrifices made by those who work tirelessly to keep our essential services running smoothly.

In the wake of this tragedy, it is our hope that the BEDC and other utility companies will take further steps to ensure the safety of their employees and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
