Bauchi State Police Command has opened a comprehensive investigation into the death of a 20-year-old man allegedly beaten by officers during questioning in Misau Local Government Area. Abdullahi Adamu, from Sebore Village in Hardawa District, died on Sunday, July 12, 2026, while receiving treatment.
The police public relations officer, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that the command is aware of social media reports alleging that operatives at a Misau Division outpost assaulted the young man while interrogating him over an active case. Adamu was first treated at the Federal Medical Centre in Misau before doctors transferred him to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where he died.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu said the command takes professionalism, human rights, and due process extremely seriously. He ordered an immediate and thorough probe into what happened.
"The command is committed to ensuring that justice is served and that appropriate disciplinary and legal actions will be taken against any personnel found culpable in accordance with the provisions of the law," Aliyu told reporters. The commissioner also extended his condolences to Adamu's family and prayed for the repose of his soul.
Police asked members of the public with relevant information to come forward and assist investigators. The command said it would act swiftly based on findings from the inquiry.
