Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, the former Foreign Affairs Minister, has failed to secure the APC's gubernatorial nomination for Bauchi State in 2027.
Tuggar was among the earliest officials who obeyed President Tinubu's order requiring cabinet members seeking elective posts to resign before March 31, 2027.
AIG John Abang (rtd), who chaired the APC's primary elections committee for Bauchi, announced the results Saturday morning after a lengthy delay.
Ex-Governor Mohammed Abubakar prevailed over six rivals to clinch the party's ticket. He polled 57,517 votes to win the primary election.
Tuggar came second with 26,001 votes in the contest. Nura Manu Soro finished third, securing 13,638 votes.
Six other aspirants also participated in the race. They included Bala Maijama'a A.
Wunti, who received 13,648 votes.
Kabir Baba Ma'aji obtained 8,157 votes in the primary. Baba Abubakar Suleiman polled 7,688 votes.
Yakubu Yakubu Abdullahi completed the field with 7,181 votes. None of the other candidates came close to Abubakar's tally.
Abubakar previously served as Bauchi governor but lost his seat in 2019. He contested that election under the APC banner.
Governor Bala Mohammed currently leads Bauchi State under the PDP. Mohammed defeated Abubakar when he ran for office eight years ago.
