Taiwo Abdulrafiu has sealed a permanent transfer to Tanzanian Premier League outfit Azam FC from Rivers United. The left-back penned a three-year deal with the East African club after featuring for the Nigerian side last season in the NPFL.
Abdulrafiu spent time with Bayelsa United before joining Rivers United and represented Nigeria at the 2024 African Nations Championship. He brings defensive experience and tactical flexibility to Azam FC as the club prepares for the new domestic campaign and African competitions.
The move marks another chapter in a growing exodus of NPFL talents heading to East Africa. Nigerian players have increasingly sought opportunities abroad in recent seasons, with several securing moves to the region's top divisions.
Azam FC will bank on Abdulrafiu's continental experience and versatility as they aim to mount a strong challenge in the Tanzanian Premier League. The club competes regularly in African club competitions, offering the defender a platform for continued development at the highest level.
