Atiku Abubakar says Nigerians are now witnessing President Bola Tinubu's true character. The African Democratic Congress presidential candidate made this declaration on Saturday.

His comments came after a court ordered INEC to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress as a political party. Atiku had challenged efforts to deregister the opposition movement.

According to him, the Tinubu administration attempted to weaken democracy through judicial manipulation. He warned that blocking the NDC could lead Nigeria toward one-party rule.

The former Vice President linked the deregistration bid to the 2027 election strategy. He argued the government wants to eliminate political opposition before voters return to the polls.

Atiku contended that restricting competition undermines democratic governance and threatens national stability. Citizens deserve genuine choices at the ballot box, he insisted.

He noted the administration's recent actions had already raised red flags about its democratic commitment. Nothing about this latest development surprised him, the ex-VP said.

"Nigerians are now seeing the true colours of President Tinubu, who pretends to be a democrat, but his body language and the sinister activities of his agents contradict his mouthed commitment to free and fair elections," Atiku stated.

Political analysts say the court ruling strengthens the NDC's position before 2027. Opposition voices have grown louder in recent months.
