Atiku Abubakar has rejected claims that President Bola Tinubu won over 10 million votes in last weekend's APC primary election. The former Vice-President called the figures completely fabricated.
APC officials announced Tinubu polled 10,999,160 votes to secure his party's reelection ticket. Atiku dismissed these numbers outright during an interview in Yala, Adamawa State.
"It is a lie. The figures were merely written," Atiku told journalists after voting in the African Democratic Congress primary.
He urged Nigerians to disregard the APC primary results entirely.
Atiku attacked Tinubu's record as president, citing poor governance and a lack of concern for ordinary citizens. He said the administration has failed Nigerians on multiple fronts.
The ADC presidential hopeful expressed optimism about his chances in 2027. He called on Nigerians to use the next general election to remove the ruling party from power.
At the ADC primary in Yola, Atiku praised the turnout he witnessed. He noted that young people's participation showed real enthusiasm for the process.
"Whenever young people embrace something, it shows that it is worthwhile and beneficial to them and their families," he said. The crowd size impressed him significantly.
When asked about winning the general election despite ADC's internal troubles, Atiku expressed confidence. "We do not see any challenge that will stop us from achieving what we set out to do," he noted.
Atiku made a direct appeal to voters across Nigeria. He argued that choosing any party other than the ADC would only deepen the nation's economic hardship.
"My message to Nigerians is to vote for the ADC," he stated plainly. He positioned his candidacy as the only viable path forward for the country.
