Troops from operation FANSAN YAMMA have stopped a kidnapping in Surimi, Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, which sits on Sokoto's border. The soldiers rescued four victims without suffering any casualties themselves.
The Nigerian Army said it acted on credible intelligence that armed terrorists were kidnapping people in the area. Troops from Forward Operating Base Unashi moved quickly to block the criminals' escape routes.
When the soldiers arrived, they found the terrorists and opened fire with superior weaponry. The gunfire forced the kidnappers to drop their four captives and run into nearby bushes, according to the army's statement on X.
"The rescued individuals were later reunited with their families," the military said. Officials stressed that all operation FANSAN YAMMA troops came through unharmed.
The army described the rescue as proof of its troops' commitment to protecting civilians and fighting insecurity across the North-West. The operation marks another success in the region's struggle against armed groups.
