About 90 hopefuls are battling it out for 32 seats in the Oyo State House of Assembly under the All Progressives Congress banner.
They're all pursuing party tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections. Taofik Abdulsalam, who chairs the APC's gubernatorial and assembly primary elections in Oyo, disclosed this at a press conference Wednesday.
The venue was the APC State Secretariat in Ibadan. Abdulsalam was joined by Ayo Afolabi, head of the elections monitoring team.
According to him, his committee has been visiting different wards to oversee the primary process. He noted that 90 aspirants picked up nomination forms for assembly seats.
All 90 cleared the screening process without disqualifications. "Everyone that obtained the forms have been cleared," Abdulsalam said.
His team has been working since Tuesday across Oyo State. They've monitored primary elections for all assembly positions in the state.
Abdulsalam added that the National Headquarters will announce final results. He stressed that the state assembly holds strategic importance for the party.
"The State House of Assembly is very crucial," he told reporters. "That's why the party set up this committee."
None of the 90 aspirants faced rejection at the nomination stage. All are now cleared to contest in their respective constituencies.
