Ajibola Bashiru, the APC's National Secretary, says the party hasn't released any screening report yet. He was responding to questions about whether Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara appeared before the party's screening committee.
Bashiru spoke with journalists on Sunday about the matter. He noted that appearing before the screening panel is merely standard procedure in their process.
According to him, the committee will only produce its findings after meeting all required candidates. "It is necessary as part of the process," Bashiru told reporters when asked about the screening.
He stressed that no conclusions should be reached at this stage. "As at now, there is no report of screening," he said flatly.
In his words, the committee must first see all scheduled candidates before deliberating. Only then will they compile and release their official findings to the public.
Bashiru's comments come amid speculation about Fubara's status within the ruling party. The governor's political relationship with the APC has drawn scrutiny in recent months.
