As the All Progressives Congress (APC) focuses on expanding its influence and restoring its strength nationwide, particularly in Delta State, concerns have been raised about the conduct of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, a former senator whose recent actions are seen by some as counterproductive to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for party unity and progress.
In a statement issued by Udochukwuka Ogheleka, a founding member of APC in Delta North, the party stalwart highlighted how Senator Nwaoboshi’s divisive rhetoric and outdated leadership style risk undermining the strides being made to reposition the APC in Delta North.
"President Tinubu has prioritized unity and progress by welcoming dynamic and result-oriented politicians to the APC, including those like Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko, who have demonstrated legislative excellence and a commitment to the people’s welfare," Ogheleka remarked. "Instead of embracing this inclusive vision, Senator Nwaoboshi appears more focused on preserving a crumbling political legacy."
Ogheleka criticized Nwaoboshi’s tenure as APC leader in Delta North, pointing out that it coincided with significant electoral setbacks. "The APC in Delta North suffered repeated defeats under Nwaoboshi’s leadership, which was plagued by stagnation and a lack of strategic direction," he said.
By contrast, Ogheleka noted Senator Nwoko’s national relevance and accomplishments, particularly his dedication to addressing critical issues like malaria eradication, waste recycling, and sustainable energy. "Senator Nwoko’s impact in the Senate has not gone unnoticed by the presidency. His motions and bills have earned widespread attention, making him a strategic asset to any party," he added.
The statement called on Nwaoboshi to embrace the changing dynamics within the APC and play a statesmanlike role in welcoming Senator Nwoko to the party. "By clinging to an outdated hierarchy and resisting progress, Senator Nwaoboshi risks alienating party faithfuls and jeopardizing the APC’s chances of reclaiming its lost glory in Delta North," Ogheleka warned.
He urged Nwaoboshi to prioritize the collective good over personal ambitions, stating, "The APC stands at a crossroads. It can either embrace visionary leadership through individuals like Senator Nwoko or remain trapped in a cycle of division and electoral failure."
Ogheleka reiterated the importance of collaboration, noting that President Tinubu’s efforts to strengthen the APC should not be derailed by internal conflicts. "President Tinubu’s vision for a stronger APC relies on teamwork and inclusion. Senator Nwaoboshi must set aside personal pride and work with Senator Nwoko to build a unified and victorious APC in Delta North," he concluded.
With the APC aiming to rejuvenate its presence in Delta State, stakeholders believe that unity, innovation, and a focus on credible leadership will determine its success in the coming elections.
