APC Convention will be smooth, conflict-free — Aniagwu assures ahead of Eagle Square showdown

The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, has assured that the forthcoming national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will be peaceful, transparent, and free of internal rancour.

Speaking on Thursday at the sidelines of the party’s world press conference held at Transcorp Hilton Abuja, Aniagwu expressed confidence that the convention, scheduled for Friday at Eagle Square, would reflect the party’s commitment to orderliness and internal democracy.

The convention is expected to bring together about 8,453 delegates who will elect party leaders through a consensus arrangement, a process the commissioner said has been carefully structured and widely accepted within the party.

Aniagwu likened the convention to the final stage of a well-prepared process, noting that groundwork had been meticulously laid from the ward level through local government and state congresses up to the national stage. He emphasised that the seamless conduct of earlier congresses across political zones demonstrated the APC’s ability to manage internal affairs effectively.

According to him, while disagreements are inevitable in any political setting, the party has established mechanisms to resolve disputes without escalating tensions. He noted that there had been no significant reports of unrest from previous stages, reinforcing confidence in a hitch-free convention.

“You have not heard of any serious trouble from the zonal congresses. Where there are disagreements, the party has mechanisms to resolve them. So, be assured that the convention will be rancour-free,” he said.

Aniagwu further stated that the outcome of the convention would strengthen the democratic credentials of the APC and boost public confidence in its internal processes.

The APC National Convention is expected to culminate in the emergence of a new leadership, setting the tone for the party’s future political engagements ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.
