The Technical Committee on the Creation of Anioma State has appointed His Royal Majesty, the Obuzor of Igbuzor, Prof. Louis Chelunor Nwaoboshi, as its new chairman following the voluntary resignation of the Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Epiphany Azinge. The leadership change, announced on November 21, 2025, marks a major shift in the ongoing push for the creation of Anioma State.

According to an official statement issued by the Committee’s Secretary, Sir (Prince) Clement N. Okonjo (JP), the Asagba formally communicated his decision to “excuse himself” from the role through a royal post on the committee’s platform. His exit has been acknowledged by Senator Ned Nwoko, chief advocate of the state creation initiative, who expressed gratitude for the monarch’s service.

Prof. Nwaoboshi, a renowned historian with over four decades of experience, has long been a central figure in the Anioma State advocacy movement. He has also played a key role as a consulting member of the Oduoma Club, contributing to strategic efforts over the years.

The committee said the new chairman’s leadership is expected to reinvigorate the state creation agenda, leveraging his deep knowledge, experience, and longstanding commitment to the Anioma cause.
