Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran broadcaster, Vivian Nkechika, describing her passing as a painful loss to Delta State’s media industry.

In a condolence message issued in Asaba on Thursday, Aniagwu commiserated with the management and staff of the Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Asaba, and members of the Delta State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), noting that the late broadcaster’s death had created a significant void in the profession.

He described Vivian Nkechika as a consummate professional whose distinctive voice, dedication to duty and commitment to ethical journalism left an indelible mark on broadcasting in the state.

Aniagwu recalled that the late Nkechika, an indigene of Ekwuoma in Ika North East Local Government Area, served as an Assistant Manager in the Programmes Department of DBS, Asaba, where she distinguished herself through years of devoted service and earned the respect of colleagues, as well as the admiration of listeners and viewers.

According to the Commissioner, the news of her death came as a rude shock, particularly at a time when her wealth of experience, guidance and mentorship were still needed within the media space.

He described her as a disciplined, hardworking and passionate media practitioner who upheld the core values of journalism and contributed significantly to public enlightenment and societal development.

Aniagwu prayed for God’s comfort and strength for the management and staff of DBS, the leadership and members of the NUJ, and the immediate family of the deceased, asking God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

He also prayed for the peaceful repose of Vivian Nkechika’s soul, urging her colleagues to uphold and sustain the legacy of professionalism, integrity and excellence for which she was known.

The Commissioner added that although she is gone, her contributions to broadcasting and journalism in Delta State would remain enduring and continue to inspire upcoming generations of media practitioners.
