Aloy Ejimakor, the Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has alleged that criminal elements are attempting to prevent Kanu's release.
In a statement issued on Friday, Ejimakor claimed that these forces are trying to influence the presidency and the court to block Kanu's release.
Ejimakor lamented that these criminal elements are causing insecurity in the Southeast to blackmail IPOB and Kanu.
He stated, "The now predictable spike in insecurity (in Southeast) anytime the court date of MAZI NNAMDI KANU is approaching appears to be a well-orchestrated effort by disparate criminal elements and their sponsors to influence the Presidency and the Court into not freeing #MNK from what has, by the dint of the Supreme Court judgment, degenerated to extra-constitutional detention."
He accused these criminal elements of attempting to cast IPOB and Kanu in a bad light through false flag operations.
Ejimakor also highlighted Kanu's previous challenge to the Federal Government, stating that if Kanu were released, the insecurity in the Southeast would end within two minutes.
Ejimakor placed the blame for the ongoing insecurity and loss of lives on those blocking Kanu's release.
He questioned why the activities of criminals, murderers, and kidnappers are attributed to IPOB without any investigation or credible evidence.
The allegations by Ejimakor highlight the complex and contentious nature of Kanu's case and its impact on the security situation in the Southeast region of Nigeria.
