Aliko Dangote Foundation Donates 80,000 10kg Bags of Rice to Lagos Residents

The Aliko Dangote Foundation recently made a generous donation of 80,000 10kg bags of rice to the people of Lagos, Nigeria.

The philanthropic gesture was commended by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who called on the private sector and well-meaning Nigerians to join hands in supporting the state and federal governments in their efforts to ease the pains of the vulnerable.

The food donation, which coincides with the holy month of Ramadan, is part of the foundation’s long-standing tradition of providing support and assistance to the needy during this time.

However, given the current circumstances, the foundation has decided to extend its Ramadan initiative to all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, recognizing the significant proportion of Nigerians facing severe hardship.

In addition to the rice donation, the foundation also pledged to distribute 4,500,000 loaves of family-size bread in Lagos, with daily distribution of 12,500 loaves.

The goal is to reach all 774 local government areas of the Federation before the end of Ramadan.

During the flag-off event at the Lagos House in Ikeja, Governor Sanwo-Olu applauded the generosity of the Dangote Foundation and called on other wealthy Nigerians to emulate Dangote’s commitment to caring for the vulnerable.

He also acknowledged the global disruptions affecting different parts of the world and the challenges they present for those in positions of leadership.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya, noted that the donation from the foundation was timely, given the situation in the food ecosystem.

She highlighted the administration’s efforts to support the downtrodden through initiatives like Eko Cares, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the government, private sector, and philanthropic organizations in addressing the effects of economic hardship.

The Aliko Dangote Foundation’s food donation to the people of Lagos is a shining example of the spirit of charity and responsibility to the community that should be embraced by all well-meaning Nigerians.

By working together, the government, private sector, and individuals can help alleviate poverty and provide economic empowerment to those in need, especially during challenging times.
