Akeredolu’s Widow Slams Niece for Supporting Aiyedatiwa in Ondo Gubernatorial Race

Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the widow of the late former Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has publicly criticized her husband’s niece, Funke Akeredolu Aruna, for supporting the incumbent Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in the upcoming gubernatorial race.

The feud has been brewing since the passing of Governor Akeredolu in December 2023, and the political drama has taken a new turn with this latest development.

In a social media post on her Instagram page on March 4, 2024, Mrs. Akeredolu expressed her disappointment in her husband’s niece for supporting Governor Aiyedatiwa, calling her a ‘bloody serpent.’

She further questioned whether Akeredolu-Aruna was truly lucky to be supporting the incumbent governor.

This comes just ten days after the former first lady threw shade at critics of her late husband, who had been criticized for showering her with love and affection during his lifetime.

Following Governor Akeredolu’s death due to prostate cancer at the age of 67, his deputy, Aiyedatiwa, was sworn in as the Governor of Ondo State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has now fixed April 16, 2024, for the governorship primary, with the main election set to take place later in the year.

This political drama between family members has caught the attention of the public, with many speculating about the motivations behind Mrs. Akeredolu’s strong stance against her husband’s niece.

As the gubernatorial race in Ondo State heats up, it remains to be seen how this family feud will impact the political landscape and the future of the state.
