Akeredolu’s Ex-Deputy and Afenifere Chieftain Vie for Ondo PDP Governorship

In the latest political development in Ondo State, former deputy governor Agboola Ajayi and Afenifere chieftain Sola Ebiseni have joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship race, setting the stage for an intriguing contest in the upcoming 2024 election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Ondo State governorship election for November 16, 2024.

Both Ajayi and Ebiseni have expressed their determination to win the PDP’s gubernatorial ticket and challenge the incumbent government.

Ajayi, who served as deputy governor during the first term of the late governor Rotimi Akeredolu, stated that he was ready for the contest.

When asked about the possibility of a consensus candidate at the primary, he emphasized the importance of all aspirants agreeing to the decision.

He also mentioned that he is above 50 and not desperate, and he expects the PDP to promote transparency in the process.

Ebiseni, on the other hand, believes that he has a comparative advantage due to his knowledge of the territory and relationship with the people.

He stressed that it is their turn and highlighted the public’s dissatisfaction with the current administration, citing a rise in violence as evidence of the government’s shortcomings.

The PDP National Working Committee has released a schedule of activities leading up to the polls.

The party will begin the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms on March 7 and conclude on March 21.

The aspirants have until March 25 to submit the completed forms, and the party will hold a congress on April 25 to pick its flag-bearer for the governorship race.

As the political landscape in Ondo State heats up, it remains to be seen who will emerge as the PDP’s candidate for the 2024 governorship election.

With two prominent figures vying for the position, the contest promises to be an exciting one.
