Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has alleged that Nigerian politicians keep some religious leaders on their payroll to influence public opinion. She made the assertion on her verified X account on Monday while commenting on Works minister Dave Umahi's participation in a prayer session.
"Nigerians want to pray their way to good governance! The same prayers that the politicians giving you bad governance are out-praying you on!" Yesufu posted.
She went further to claim that politicians have enlisted religious leaders to their cause. "They even have your religious rulers on their payroll.
You bring sadaqah and tithes in thousands they bring theirs in billions," she told Nigerians.
Yesufu's comments suggest she believes prayer alone cannot address Nigeria's governance challenges without systemic reforms. The activist has been vocal about accountability and transparency in government dealings.
