Africa’s Largest Syringe Firm, JSM, Ceases Operations in Nigeria

The  Africa’s largest syringe manufacturing company, Jubilee Syringe Manufacturing (JSM), has announced that it will be closing its doors in Nigeria.

The company cited “unforeseen circumstances affecting our business operations” as the primary reason for the decision.

JSM, once celebrated as a leading syringe manufacturer in Africa, had been inaugurated in 2017 by then-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The company had even secured a $1 million credit facility and was planning to expand its operations beyond syringes to include gloves, masks, and infusion sets.

The closure of JSM is part of a growing trend of multinational companies leaving Nigeria, including Procter & Gamble, GlaxoSmithKline, Sanofi-Aventis, and Equinor.

This exodus has raised concerns about the impact on Nigeria’s economy and the country’s ability to attract and retain businesses.

The exit of JSM is a significant blow to Nigeria’s economy and healthcare system.

The company had been a major supplier of syringes to the country, and its departure will likely result in increased costs and decreased access to essential medical supplies.
