Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has urged security agencies to keep up their fight against criminals in the wake of a successful rescue operation that freed abducted pupils and teachers in neighbouring Oyo State. The governor seized the moment to congratulate President Bola Tinubu and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for orchestrating the operation, calling the safe release of the victims welcome news for Nigeria.

In a statement released Sunday through his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke praised the coordinated security response as proof that working together works. He said the rescue showed how joint operations can tackle kidnapping, terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes plaguing the country.

"I congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and my brother Governor Seyi Makinde on the successful rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State," Adeleke said. "Their safe return is a great relief to their families and indeed to all Nigerians."

The governor commended the Nigerian Army, Office of the National Security Adviser, National Counter Terrorism Centre, Defence Headquarters, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, National Intelligence Agency and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. He noted their collaboration was crucial to bringing the victims home safely after weeks of intensive work.

Adeleke highlighted how the operation demonstrated why Nigeria's security institutions must remain in sync to tackle insecurity and protect citizens from criminal threats. He singled out the professionalism and restraint displayed by security personnel, noting they dismantled the criminal network without putting the hostages at risk.

The governor also honoured those who paid the ultimate price during the rescue mission, commending their sacrifice. He prayed for the souls of security personnel who died and wished the wounded a quick recovery.

"I urge security agencies to maintain the momentum in the fight against crime across the country," he said. The call comes as Nigeria grapples with escalating insecurity, with kidnapping becoming an increasingly brazen tactic employed by armed gangs across several states.

The successful Oyo operation has rekindled hope that coordinated, sustained security efforts can yield results. Adeleke's push for continued momentum reflects broader anxiety among state governors about the security situation and the need for sustained action.
