Bolaji Abdullahi, the African Democratic Congress spokesperson, expressed disappointment on Monday over Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso's exit from the party. He made the remarks during an appearance on Arise TV.
Both men recently left the ADC for the Nigerian Democratic Congress. Their departures represent a setback for the opposition party, Abdullahi noted.
"Personally, I'm not happy that Peter Obi and Kwankwaso left the ADC," he told the station. "But in a way, it's a bit of a relief."
Abdullahi acknowledged the blow to the party's fortunes. However, he insisted the damage isn't irreparable or catastrophic for ADC's future.
"Is this a setback? The answer is yes," he said.
"Is it a fatal blow? The answer is no."
Obi, a former Anambra governor, and Kwankwaso, his Kano equivalent, formally switched parties on Sunday. Their move comes as the opposition continues to reposition ahead of upcoming elections.
