Adamawa State has launched a massive mosquito net distribution drive targeting malaria prevention. The campaign kicked off with over two million insecticide-treated nets earmarked for more than one million residents.
Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta officially flagged off the 2026 Integrated Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention initiative on behalf of the state government. The effort brings together Adamawa authorities, the Federal Ministry of Health, and international development partners.
Children under five and expectant mothers stand as priority beneficiaries under the new scheme. The state aims to slash malaria-related mortality and disease burden across all communities.
Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Farauta emphasized the administration's resolve to strengthen healthcare delivery. "As a government, we remain resolute in strengthening our healthcare system and ensuring a malaria-free Adamawa State," she stated.
She commended frontline health workers and the National Malaria Elimination Programme for their persistence. Development partners also drew her praise for backing the campaign.
Malaria continues ravaging families and communities despite years of control efforts, she acknowledged. Adamawa has therefore doubled down on sustainable prevention measures to tackle the persistent public health threat.
Professor Farauta called on mothers and guardians to play their part actively. She urged them to ensure children complete all prescribed doses of the seasonal malaria prevention medicine.
Households must use the distributed nets consistently, she stressed. This dual approach—medication plus nets—offers maximum protection against mosquito-borne infection.
Health Commissioner Chubado Mohammed backed the initiative without reservation. He predicted the campaign would meaningfully lift public health outcomes statewide.
Dr. Suleiman Saidu Bashir, who heads the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, shared similar optimism.
He believes the drive will sharply reduce malaria cases across the state.
Adamawa ranks among Nigeria's highest malaria-burden states, making it a focus area. The net distribution and chemoprevention programme form part of broader national malaria-fighting strategy.
Federal and state governments view the campaign as critical to strengthening preventive healthcare. Both tiers committed fresh resources to ensure the initiative succeeds.
