Residents of Abude Street in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, have expressed gratitude to Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, the Council Chairman for the various community-focused projects launched since his assumption of office.
The residents, comprising youths, women, and elderly members of the community, shared their initial surprise at seeing heavy machinery on their street two months ago, as the area had long been neglected. Their excitement grew when they learned that the road's construction contract had been officially awarded and work commenced.
Elder Efam Oriahi, a retired engineer and local resident, commended the council’s leadership for prioritizing the street’s rehabilitation. “Those of us residing on Abude Street and its environs are deeply grateful to the Ika South Council boss for this initiative. The road is being professionally done, with quality drainage on both sides,” Oriahi said, noting the high standards and materials used in the construction. He added, “This is the first time since I built my home in 1990 that I have seen Abude Street receive any attention.”
According to Oriahi, the project has transformed Abude Street from one of Agbor’s most deplorable roads to a well-constructed roadway with solid, straight drains to manage floodwater. He commended the local government chairman’s commitment, noting that Engr. Ehiwarior’s frequent site visits highlight his dedication to improving infrastructure for Ika South residents.
Reflecting on the significance of public service, Oriahi encouraged other officials to prioritize projects that directly benefit their constituents. “Public office holders should focus on projects that make a positive difference, as Engr. Ehiwarior is doing. We will continue to support him and pray for his success,” he said.
Similarly, Agbor Kingdom chiefs, Chief Peter Idion (Adolor Dein) and Chief Hilary Agholor (Nwuzo Yeni Dein), described the road project as a landmark accomplishment for the Ehiwarior administration. During their site visit on Monday, both chiefs commended the chairman’s bold move to undertake a capital-intensive project, praising the quality and speed of execution achieved within just three months of his term.
The ongoing construction of Abude Street stands as a testament to Engr. Ehiwarior’s proactive approach to governance and infrastructural development in Ika South.
