Abia State Clears All Pension Arrears Under Governor Alex Otti

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State revealed that the state government has successfully cleared all the pension arrears for retirees in the state.

The announcement was made during the monthly media parley in Umuahia, where it was also disclosed that over N9 billion out of the N10 billion outlay had been spent on the exercise, benefiting about 12,500 retirees.

Governor Otti, who assumed office on May 29, 2023, had previously promised to clear all the pension arrears by the end of the year.

However, due to a challenging verification process, the exercise was completed only recently.

Moving forward, pensioners in Abia State will receive 100% of their entitlements on or before the 28th of each month.

The governor also emphasized that his administration would continue to prioritize the healthcare delivery system in the state.

In collaboration with a group, over 80 medical doctors have been engaged to provide free medical services, including surgeries and other treatments, to residents in the coming days.

Logistics have been put in place to assist those coming from outside the state capital, Umuahia, to take advantage of the free medical services.

Governor Otti reiterated his administration’s commitment to retrofitting the 948 primary health care centers in the state, aiming to improve the overall healthcare infrastructure and accessibility for residents.

The Abia State Government’s successful clearing of all pension arrears marks a significant milestone in fulfilling its promise to prioritize the welfare of its retirees.

This development, coupled with the focus on healthcare, highlights the administration’s commitment to improving the lives of Abia State’s residents.
