Abdulsalami pleads with Tinubu to raise minimum wage, says N30,000 is inadequate and cannot develop Nigerians

The former Military Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, has voiced his displeasure with the N30,000 minimum wage, saying that it is inadequate in the current situation in Nigeria.

Abdulsalami urged President Bola Tinubu to think about raising the minimum wage, as he thinks that N30,000 cannot lead to any significant human development anywhere in the world.

The former Head of State made this remark in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, on Wednesday, when he gave a speech at the first Peace, Unity, and Reconciliation Summit, organised by the Taraba Independent Peace Committee.

He was represented by Rev. Fr. Atah Bakindo, the head of the secretariat of the Kukah Centre and the National Peace Committee. He advised Nigerians to use the resources in their areas to improve their living standards.

“I want to appeal to the Nigerian president that the N30,000 national minimum wage is not enough for anyone. It is not acceptable anywhere in the world, and it cannot develop anyone; there is a pressing need to increase wages for the sake of our growth.
