I was shot at a close range but God delivered me -Ominimini

Addressing Journalists after a thanksgiving service at Ughelli, Ominimini noted that every living human being must always gives thanks to God, but added that was to appreciate God who averted the gunshot and spared his life, even when the attacker meant to kill him.

According to him, “today’s thanksgiving is as a result of the miracle God did by sparing my lives during the last election where I was attacked, but for the intervention of God I would have been a dead man by now, I escaped unhurt, those who planned to kill me were disappointed by God through His divine intervention.

“In the last election, because of my stand some individual, because I didn’t take the last election purely on partisan bases, but on individual bases, for the Governorship, House of Assembly, Senatorial and House of Representative I have my stand, I took a candidate based on my conviction, not just that because you are the flag bearer of a political party, I must support and vote for you.

“Some people felt that I must be eliminated for them to have a free day and to manipulate system and get into office, but God delivered me, today am happy that am alive to tell my story and not the other way round, so am thankful to God.

“I was shot at close range, but God averted the bullet, people even thought that I had charm that averted the bullet, but it was God, I even thought I was dead; because I was shot at directly at a close range, I believe the Almighty God saved me, he alone deserves the glory.

He stated further that; “I must commend the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the DPO B division Ughelli Police command and his men, if not for their effort, I would have been leached and killed. My attackers came with guns, machetes, not done with me, when they could succeed, they came to my house shot my gateman who is still receiving treatment up till now, but thank God that in all no life was lost.

He stressed that, “politicians should not kill to gain power, mandate of the people is freely given as a result of the impact you have made in their lives. You don’t earn the mandate of the people through killings or by force.”

Ominimini called for the overhauling of the Nigeria electoral process, noting that a situation where people resort to violence, killing and miming in order to be declare the winner of an election is undemocratic and should be condemned.
