Reps To Examine Spending On 2023 Census That Was Delayed

The National Population Commission (NPC) will be probed by the House of Representatives for spending 200 billion naira on the 2023 population and housing census that was later postponed.

This decision was reached on Wednesday after Honourable Dominic Okafor raised a motion to alert the lawmakers to the huge amount of money spent on the census.

However, the lawmakers did not agree on whether to conduct the census this year because of the security situation.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the indefinite postponement of the 2023 Population and Housing Census that was supposed to take place from May 3 to 7, pending the decision of the incoming administration.

The population and housing census that was initially planned for May 3–7, 2023, was called off by former President Muhammadu Buhari in April.
