Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has been described as a divinely ordained leader whose people-focused governance and emphasis on institution-building are laying the foundation for a new, sustainable Delta State.
The commendation came on Sunday from the Parish Priest of St. Williams Catholic Church, Orerokpe, Rev. Fr. Peter Awharemuire, during the 70th Thanksgiving Mass of Lady Doris Onoriode Ejinyere, which Governor Oborevwori attended as a special guest.
Delivering a homily drawn from Jeremiah 29:10–14, Rev. Fr. Awharemuire said the Governor’s emergence as Chief Executive of Delta State was part of a divine plan, stressing that his leadership was “neither accidental nor incidental.”
“Your leadership was ordained by God long before your birth. What we are witnessing today in Delta State is the unfolding of God’s purpose. Leadership is not by power or might, but by the Spirit of God,” the cleric declared.
He noted that the visible progress recorded across key sectors—including infrastructure, education, healthcare, security and community development—was evidence of focused, purposeful and divinely guided leadership. According to him, confidence has been restored across the state, communities are safer, and lives are better protected.
Rev. Fr. Awharemuire said Governor Oborevwori’s administration stands out for prioritising sustainability over mere physical projects, noting that the Governor is deliberately building enduring systems that will outlive his tenure.
“This Governor is not just constructing roads, bridges, hospitals and schools; he is building systems in security, education, infrastructure and governance. That is why we say he is creating a new Delta,” he said, adding that the transformation is designed to benefit both present and future generations.
Describing the Governor as a leader of uncommon courage, the cleric said Oborevwori’s achievements have already earned him a permanent place in the state's political history. “You are a juggernaut in the political history of Delta State. What you have done will remain written. History will not forget it,” he added.
He further said the Church and the people of Delta State were proud of the Governor’s leadership, which he described as humble, inclusive, just and service-driven, while urging him to continue to lead with wisdom, humility and caution, assuring him of the Church’s continued prayers.
Earlier, the priest offered prayers for the celebrant, Lady Doris Ejinyere, describing her as a just, fair-minded and exemplary woman.
In his remarks, Governor Oborevwori congratulated Lady Ejinyere on her 70th birthday, describing her as a woman of integrity, strength and steadfast commitment to family and service.
“She is upright, principled and dependable. Yes, she is firm, but that firmness is rooted in sincerity and love,” the Governor said, expressing joy at the unity of the Ejinyere family and the enduring values of faith and strong family bonds reflected in the celebration.
Lady Ejinyere, in her remarks, expressed deep gratitude to her family, friends and well-wishers for their support over the years, and praised Governor Oborevwori for his compassion and achievements, saying they were “so evident that even the blind can see them and the deaf can hear them.”
