Court Fines FG, EFCC N100m for Unlawfully Detaining Emefiele for Five Months

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Federal Government and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to pay a fine of N100 million to former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, for unlawfully detaining him for five months.

The court declared that the prolonged detention of Mr. Emefiele without trial was a gross violation of his fundamental rights, and the actions of the government and the EFCC were deemed unconstitutional.

The presiding judge, Justice Olukayode Adeniyi, also ordered the government and its agents to refrain from further arresting or detaining Mr. Emefiele without a valid court order.

Some users praised the court for upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of citizens, while others criticized the government and the EFCC for their actions.
