Yusuf Buhari emerged victorious in Saturday's APC primary election for the House of Representatives. The son of former President Muhammadu Buhari won the contest in Daura/Sandamu/Mai'adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State.
According to the election committee chairman Lawan Garba, Yusuf polled 17,342 votes. His closest rival, Auwalu Musa Daura, managed only 480 votes.
Yusuf took to social media to celebrate the result. "We have secured a landslide victory with 5,849 votes, defeating our opponent who polled just 21 votes," he wrote on Twitter.
He described the margin as overwhelming proof of public backing. "This is a clear demonstration of the trust, confidence and support of our people," the candidate noted.
Auwalu, son of former DSS Director-General Lawan Daura, had rejected calls to step aside before voting began. He contested the election despite pressure to reach a consensus arrangement.
After the results were announced, Auwalu disputed the outcome entirely. He told Daily Trust the primary violated APC guidelines and procedures.
According to his complaint, many voters lacked valid APC membership cards. He insisted the election process fell short of established standards.
Yusuf offered a different account in a subsequent interview. He described the primary as conducted peacefully without incident.
"The election was peaceful and there will be no crisis," he stated flatly. He added that dissatisfied candidates could pursue legal remedies if they wished.
Yusuf expressed confidence about his prospects in 2027. He promised to remain optimistic regardless of any challenges ahead.
"I thank Allah and will continue to appreciate the good people of Daura/Sandamu/Mai'Adua for coming out to vote for me," he said. He vowed to work with all former opponents for community development.
The candidate emphasized youth involvement in his campaign plans. "It is a youth movement, and we will ensure young people are fully involved," he noted.
Yusuf dismissed Auwalu's concerns about the election conduct. "We met at the polling unit, exchanged greetings and even took photographs together," he observed.
"I do not understand what he is talking about now," Yusuf added. "If he wishes, he can take the matter anywhere he wants."
He called on constituents to participate fully in the general election. "I urge the people of Daura/Sandamu/Mai'Adua to come out en masse to exercise their franchise," he told reporters.
Victory in 2027 is within reach, Yusuf expressed hope. "God willing, we will win the election," he concluded.
