Youth chairman gruesomely murdered by suspected assassins in Ughelli

It was a black Sunday for residents, friends and relatives of one Mr. Ejiro Ikpikpini, a youth chairman in Otor-Iwhreko community, in Ughelli over the gruesomely murdered in the early  hours of Sunday, July 22, by yet to be identified persons at his residence in Oguori street, Uloho-Venue, Ughelli.

According to community source in Otor-Iwhreko, the late chairman was commissioned just a day before his murdered by the elders and leaders of the community to oversee the proceeds from revenues paid by traders, trading at the Ughelli main market, as those previously incharge were removed due to poor remittance of proceeds to the community treasury.

The source further alleged that his murder may not be unconnected with the position given to him by the community leaders, which might have offended some vested interest.

Credible sources further revealed that, the revenue collection processes in the community have been trailed by controversies in recent times with those hitherto in charge allegedly being sanctioned for alleged lack of remittance to the community purse.

ADVOCATE furthered gathered  that after his appointment on Saturday July 21, trouble started and sensing danger, the deceased was said to have lodged a formal complaint at the Ughelli police station, unknowing that his assailants were to struck that night.

The bandits allegedly accessed the deceased apartment on the fateful night through opening created by the assailants who cut out some rods in the metal protector in his bathroom window and was tied up before clubbing and stabbing him to death.

It was also gathered that the assassins made attempt to rape the victim’s wife, whom they said to have been stripped before changing their mind; however she was not spared as she was stabbed in her private parts.

A community leader told our reporter that the police in Ughelli have swung into action and some arrests has made and that they are helping police investigation.
