Wike Warns Newly Inaugurated FCT Permanent Secretaries: Perform or Face the Sack

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has advised the Permanent Secretaries to perform their duties effectively or risk being sacked.

The warning came during the inauguration of the Chairman and Commissioners of the FCT Civil Service Commission, the FCT Head of Service, and the Permanent Secretaries in Abuja on Monday.

Wike emphasized that the newly appointed officials were not political appointees and, as such, would not be subjected to the usual query process in accordance with civil service rules.

Instead, he made it clear that any unsatisfactory performance would result in immediate dismissal.

The Minister reminded the FCT workers of the long-awaited realization of the FCT Civil Service Commission, which was enacted in 2018.

With President Bola Tinubu finally bringing this to fruition, Wike urged the workers to reciprocate by demonstrating their commitment and working towards the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Wike also announced that the newly appointed Head of Service would be sending out posting letters to Directors as part of his commitment to reshuffle them, in line with President Tinubu’s directive.

He further urged the Coordinators of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), the Abuja Municipal Management Council (AMMC), and the Abuja Infrastructure Investment Council (AIIC) to discharge their duties diligently.

The STDD coordinator was specifically advised to pay close attention to developments in the area councils, while the AMMC coordinator was tasked with ensuring that street lights are functioning, sanitation is well-maintained, and public buildings are properly repaired.

As the new administration takes shape, the FCT officials are expected to demonstrate their commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda by performing their duties effectively and efficiently.

Failure to do so could result in the swift termination of their appointments.
