Why Delta Youths Had the Courage to Kill Soldiers: A Government Failure, Says Kachikwu

Some youths in Delta State recently attacked and killed several military officers who were on their way to carry out a peace mission between the Okuama and Okoloba communities.

The incident has sparked outrage and calls for justice, with many questioning how the situation escalated to such an extreme level.

Dumebi Kachikwu, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has spoken out about the incident, placing the blame squarely on the government’s shoulders.

According to Kachikwu, the government’s failure to address previous attacks on security operatives and its inability to implement laws against violence emboldened the youths to carry out such a heinous act without fear of punishment.

Kachikwu emphasized the need for the government to ensure that the current crop of offenders do not go unpunished, urging the President to take a strong stance against such acts of violence.

He argued that the Nigerian government must make it known that attacks on military personnel and the loss of any Nigerian life will be met with stiff punishments for the perpetrators.

The ADC presidential candidate pointed out that the kidnappings and killings in the Okuama community had become a recurring issue, and the state governments have failed to take decisive action against it.

He cited the lack of political will to address the issue, with politicians often protecting their “kit and kin” rather than seeking justice for the victims.

Kachikwu highlighted the need for a government that says “Nigeria is not a place where human lives are taken and no price is paid.”

He stressed that the Commander-in-Chief must be someone who will avenge the loss of military personnel and ensure that a price is paid for any Nigerian life lost, going to the very end to bring the perpetrators to book.

The incident in Delta State has brought to light the growing issue of gang violence and the government’s inability to address it.

As the nation mourns the loss of its brave soldiers, it is crucial for the government to take immediate and decisive action to prevent such incidents from happening again and to ensure that justice is served for the victims and their families.
