In a move that signals deepening political alignment, key leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Aniocha North Local Government Area on Wednesday declared their unflinching support for Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly.
The strategic engagement, held at the APC Secretariat in Issele-Uku, brought together party executives, elders, and stakeholders, who praised Senator Nwoko's commitment to grassroots politics and party unity. The Senator, in his address, emphasized a new era of discipline and focus within the party, promising to end internal sabotage and infighting.
“I appreciate your sacrifices in keeping this party afloat through thick and thin,” Nwoko stated. “What I tolerated in the past—the disrespect, the sabotage—is over. If there’s ever a talk of factions, let it be known: I stand with Mr. President.”
The meeting reached a crescendo when former State Publicity Secretary, Michael Osionye Chinye, moved a motion of confidence on President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and Senator Nwoko. It was unanimously adopted by the house, seconded by former councillor Anslem Odiakaose.
Dr. Anthonia Ashiedu, a respected political voice and former Commissioner for Micro Credit, praised Senator Nwoko’s access to national leadership and urged the people to rally behind the push for Anioma State. “He’s not just a senator—he’s a bridge to power and progress for Anioma. We must protect that,” she said. “Now is the time to speak boldly of Anioma. No fear, no shame.”
“We have a duty to support our Senator, and we have a duty to support Anioma. Wherever you find yourself, whether in church, at the market, or in village meetings, talk about Anioma and why we need our own state. We are too unique to be diminished, no matter where we are.
“Let’s put aside the fear being pushed around that zoning us to the South-East automatically makes us Igbo. We’ve coexisted peacefully with various cultures and tribes here in Delta and have still maintained our uniqueness. So when did we begin to struggle with this inferiority complex?
“Senator Ned is more than just a senator; he is a blessing to Aniocha North and the entire Anioma. He is our first senator, and thankfully, the type we can proudly brag about. We must not take him for granted or allow this moment to slip through our fingers.
“Show me one leader from this locality who has the kind of access to the President that Senator Ned has, there’s none! We must not toy with what we have. Let’s protect him, let’s shield him from harm. Now that he’s strong and ready to do the work, we must stand firmly behind him”, she said.
The meeting was presided over by Sir Matthew Chinye, APC Chairman in Aniocha North, who reaffirmed the LGA’s loyalty to the party and to Senator Nwoko’s vision for a united and progressive Delta North.
