‘We Need State Police, Vigilantes Ill-Equipped to Face Bandits,’ Says Gov. Sani

In the face of increasing insecurity in Kaduna State, Governor Uba Sani has called for the establishment of state police to combat the growing threat of bandits.

Recent incidents, including the kidnapping of over 280 students in the Kuriga area and the abduction of 87 people in Kajuru Local Government Area, have highlighted the need for more robust security measures.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Governor Sani emphasized that the current vigilante service is ill-equipped to face bandits who carry sophisticated weapons.

He argued that the creation of state police would provide the necessary legal authority to hold firearms, including AK-47s, allowing communities to defend themselves more effectively.

In response to the recent abductions, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Christopher Musa assured Nigerians that the military is working tirelessly to free the abducted students and other victims across the country.

He added that the security forces would expose those behind the evil machinations and bring them to justice.

Gen. Musa also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to supporting the armed forces and reassured the people of Kaduna State that the military is not sleeping on the issue.

He stated that more troops are coming and that the military is taking more actions to safeguard and bring the children out safely, as quickly as possible.

The call for the establishment of state police has been echoed by many, as it is seen as a crucial step in addressing the growing security challenges in Nigeria.

The creation of state police would not only enable communities to defend themselves more effectively but also enhance collaboration between the state and federal governments in tackling the issue of insecurity.
