The Urhobo Progress Union of America & North America (UPUA) has commended Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, for what it described as exemplary, people-centred leadership marked by strong support for traditional institutions and sustained infrastructure development across the state.
In a statement signed by its President, Chief Sam Ogaga, UPUA praised the governor’s presentation of 65 brand new Sports Utility Vehicles to members of the Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers, describing the gesture as a symbolic and practical affirmation of the importance of monarchs in grassroots governance, peace-building and community development.
According to the group, traditional rulers remain custodians of culture, values and communal harmony, noting that the provision of durable vehicles suited to difficult terrains would significantly enhance their operational efficiency. UPUA said the initiative further strengthens stability, security and social cohesion at the grassroots, describing the vehicles as “true tools of service.”
The diaspora body also applauded Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to infrastructure, particularly the recent groundbreaking ceremony of the Otovwodo–Ughelli Flyover Bridge on January 12, 2026. It described the project as a historic milestone that would improve road connectivity, ease traffic congestion, stimulate economic activity and enhance the quality of life in Ughelli and its environs.
UPUA noted that the massive turnout of youths, elders, women and community leaders at the ceremony reflected widespread public confidence in the governor’s vision and leadership.
The union further expressed encouragement over the governor’s inclusive governance style under the MORE Agenda, citing his consistent engagement with workers, youths, women, vulnerable groups and traditional rulers as evidence of fairness, empathy and equity.
UPUA congratulated the people of Ughelli, Delta Central Senatorial District and the entire state on the recent developments, assuring the Delta State Government of its continued support and partnership in promoting unity, peace and sustainable development.
The group commending Governor Oborevwori for what it called leadership marked by wisdom, humility and a genuine commitment to the wellbeing of the people.
