The Urhobo Progressive Movement (UPM) has commended His Excellency, President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, on the recent honour and recognition bestowed on two illustrious sons of the Urhobo ethnic nationality — the late labour icon, Chief Frank Kokori, and media mogul, Dr. Alex Ibru.
The coordinator of the group, Comrade Wilson Okorugbo, described the gesture as a well-deserved acknowledgement of their contributions to deepen democratic government, promote national development and the advancement of the Urhobo people.
He noted that such recognition not only celebrates their legacies but also uplifts the entire Urhobo nation.
The group extended heartfelt congratulations to the families of the late Chief Frank Kokori and Dr. Alex Ibru on the notable honours given to the patriarchs
"I want to specially congratulate the families of Chief Frank Kokori and Dr. Alex Ibru on this prestigious recognition. This honour is not only a tribute to their legacies but also a proud moment for the entire Urhobo nation. It is indeed a good omen for us all,".
He further urged all Urhobo leaders to close ranks, set aside differences, and unite in the collective interest of promoting the region’s socio-political and economic development.
Emphasising that this recognition should serve as a wake-up call to all Urhobo leaders. “It is a clarion call for unity and collaboration. Urhobo leaders must close ranks, work assiduously, and contribute meaningfully to the development of our nation while promoting the values and interests of the Urhobo ethnic nationality. So as to attract even greater recognition and opportunities for our people.
Comrade Okorugbo reiterated UPM’s commitment to fostering unity and political relevance for the Urhobo people within the national landscape.
