UPDATE: COVID-19 hits Delta, index case evacuated to Oghara

….Gov Okowa urge Deltans  remain calm 

 

 

Delta State has recorded its first cases of the novel Coronavirus pandemic, code-named COVID-19.

ADVOCATE can authoritatively report that the index case of COVID-19 recorded Delta State was recorded in Warri and not in Ughelli, as earlier reported.

It was further gathered that index has been reportedly moved to the Isolation Centre at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara and his is not a lawmaker, but a Deltans who came back from abroad recently.

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) disclosed this on its on NCDC twitter handle on Wednesday night, also announced 16 new cases of the Coronavirus, bringing the total 254 cases.

The breakdown of the new cases shows that Lagos State has new 10 cases, FCT and Oyo state have two each, while Katsina States and Delta recorded one each, the statement on NCDC twitter handle disclosed.

Recall that the state government as a measure to stem the spread of the virus to Delta State had closed all land bothers to the state on March 26th, and also announced a total lockdown of the State on April 1st, 2020.

Meanwhile, Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa while confirming the index case of COVID-19 in the state urged the Deltans to remain calm and the situation is under control.

According to Governor Okowa in a post on his verified Facebook page said: “This evening, a patient in Delta State tested positive for the #COVID19 virus. This index case is already receiving the necessary treatment at one of our isolation centres.

“Tomorrow morning, I will be addressing our citizens on developments surrounding this case.

“Again, I ask that you all remain calm at this time and continue to adhere to the precautionary measures and isolation directives that we have put in place to keep you and your families safe. I have no doubt whatsoever that we will all get through this together,” the statement added.
