Federal University Wukari in Taraba State has barred its staff and students from using two major roads due to security threats. The institution released the advisory on July 1, 2026, through its registrar's office, citing deteriorating conditions in the affected areas.

Travellers are instructed to avoid the Wukari–Zaki Biam and Wukari–Takum routes, with the university urging them to seek alternative paths wherever possible. The ban will remain in effect until the university deems it safe to lift the restriction.

The management described the measure as a protective step designed to shield members of the university community from harm. "Staff and students are strongly advised to avoid the two routes and make use of alternative roads whenever travel is unavoidable," the circular read.

The university stressed that those who must travel should exercise extreme caution and adopt safety measures during their journeys. It also asked for patience and backing from the affected persons, emphasising that protecting lives remains its core concern.

Officials acknowledged the hardship the directive would impose on regular commuters relying on these roads. However, they made clear that community safety outweighs the inconvenience caused by the travel restrictions.

The circular did not spell out which specific security incidents or threats prompted the decision. This lack of detail left questions about the exact nature and severity of the dangers facing travellers on those routes.

The advisory reflects growing unease across Nigeria's middle belt, where armed gangs and kidnappers have intensified operations in recent months. Universities and other institutions have increasingly issued similar warnings as incidents multiply in volatile regions.
