Unity in the Fight Against Terrorism: Defence College Commandant’s Call to Action

Rear Adm. Olumuyiwa Olotu, Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC), emphasized the need for unity and a holistic approach.
During the International Cultural Fiesta of the College’s Course 32 on Saturday in Abuja, the Commandant stressed that terrorism is a challenge that requires a united front and a common purpose.
Speaking to the participants, comprising senior military officers from 19 countries undergoing higher defence management and strategic studies, Olotu pointed out that the unity demonstrated by the participants was a strong indication of their readiness to face challenges together, with a shared spirit and purpose.
“Here you cannot see any difference among the people and that is the same way that we should approach the fight against global terrorism,” he said, emphasizing the interconnected nature of global security.
The Commandant underscored the importance of recognizing that challenges faced in one part of the world affect the whole globe, making it essential for nations to stand together in addressing terrorism.
He urged the participants to use the occasion of the International Cultural Fiesta not just to enjoy the cultural exchange but also to strengthen the bonds that they have built across borders.
As part of the NDC’s academic program, the event included country briefs by the international participants, which highlighted the history, culture, and policies of their respective countries, further fostering understanding and collaboration.
“More so, the participants display the culture, artefacts, maps, and culinary specialties of their countries during this event,” said Olotu, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange in building stronger ties.
The Commandant’s message was clear: the fight against terrorism requires unity, cooperation, and a shared vision for a safer world.
By coming together, nations can effectively address the challenges posed by terrorism, ensuring a more secure future for all.
