The Delta State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has launched a specialised team to monitor and protect critical national assets and infrastructure across the state. Commandant Chinedu Igbo Fabian, the state commandant, disclosed this during a briefing with journalists.
The new unit will focus on stopping the rising tide of vandalism targeting Base Transceiver Stations and other key facilities in Delta. Igbo said the move represents a critical effort to shield federal infrastructure from deliberate destruction.
Protecting critical national assets falls squarely within the corps' core responsibilities, the commandant stressed. "The NSCDC must remain proactive in preventing acts of vandalism and sabotage," he said.
Igbo added: "The responsibility of safeguarding our nation's critical infrastructure is one we cannot afford to fail. I expect every member of this team to discharge their duties with commitment, professionalism, and integrity."
Beyond the inauguration, personnel under Igbo's command recently swept through bushes and forests around Ibusa to eliminate potential hideouts for kidnappers. The operation aimed to prevent criminals from using such locations to hold victims or plan attacks.
During the exercise, officers profiled and interviewed settlers living in forest areas to verify their identities and movements. The screening helped establish who legitimately occupies those spaces and flag suspicious individuals.
The commandant framed the surveillance push as essential to maintaining national security in the state. The CNAI team will work to intercept infrastructure criminals before they strike, he indicated.
