The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) has called on the Kwara State Police Command to enforce existing laws banning the sale and consumption of alcohol, betting, and related offenses in parts of Ilorin, the state capital.
During a consultative meeting between the police and community leaders at the Command's headquarters in Ilorin, IEDPU National President, Alh. AbdulMumini AbdulMalik, expressed concern about the violation of these laws across the city.
He emphasized that it is the responsibility of the police to enforce these laws to maintain order and sanity in the community.
AbdulMalik pointed out that many crimes in Ilorin are encouraged by alcohol and drug addictions, and that the police must take action to curb these issues.
He also thanked the police for their ongoing efforts to combat crime since the appointment of the current Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, last year.
CP Olaiya organized the meeting to seek the support of community leaders in the police's efforts to prevent and control crime.
He urged the IEDPU, traditional chiefs, and leaders of Ilorin Emirate, as well as other stakeholders, to assist the police in curbing crime and addressing the resurgence of cult killings in the area.
In response, the community leaders pledged their support and cooperation in working with the police to ensure a safer environment for all residents of Ilorin and the state of Kwara.
