Umahi Slams Atiku Over Coastal Road Project Criticism: A Call for Transparency and Understanding

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his remarks about the cost and procurement of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project.

The project, awarded to Gilbert Chagoury’s Hitech, has been a point of contention, with Atiku alleging that it lacked transparency and competitive bidding.

Umahi, a former party chairman, governor, and senator, expressed disappointment in Atiku’s comments, stating that the former Vice President lacked an understanding of figures.

He promised to address a world press conference in Lagos to provide detailed information on the project and its costs.

The minister emphasized the President Bola Tinubu administration’s prudence and its efforts to bring down project costs.

He also highlighted the economic benefits of the coastal road, which would connect the entire country and not just the South-South and South-West regions.

Atiku, however, responded by challenging the Tinubu government to reveal the project’s cost.

He accused the administration of responding with insults rather than addressing the concerns raised by the public.

The former Vice President posed six questions to the administration, demanding transparency and clarity on the matter.

This exchange between Umahi and Atiku highlights the importance of transparency and understanding in government projects.

It also underscores the need for open dialogue and accurate information to ensure that the public is well-informed about the decisions made by their leaders.

As the debate continues, Nigerians eagerly await further details on the coastal road project and the government’s response to Atiku’s questions.

The outcome of this situation will undoubtedly have implications for the Tinubu administration’s credibility and the public’s trust in its ability to deliver on its promises.
