A televised interview between United States President Donald Trump and NBC's Meet the Press moderator Kristin Welker ended abruptly after a heated exchange over Trump's continued claims that the 2020 presidential election was rigged, allegations of political persecution, and the prosecution of January 6 Capitol riot defendants.

The interview, which aired on Sunday, quickly turned confrontational as Welker repeatedly challenged Trump to provide evidence supporting assertions of widespread voter fraud and government "weaponisation" against his supporters—claims that have been rejected by multiple courts, election officials and independent investigations.

Tensions escalated when Welker pressed the president on his longstanding allegation that the 2020 election was stolen, asking him to substantiate the claim.

"The election was rigged. It was a dirty election," Trump insisted, adding that similar practices were continuing in California.

When asked what evidence he had to support the allegation, Trump replied: "All I have to do is look. All I have to do is look. And I listen. And I listen to people."

Welker immediately challenged the response, saying: "But that's not evidence."

The sharp exchange marked the most contentious moment of the interview and underscored the deep divide over Trump's repeated election fraud claims, which remain a central theme of his political rhetoric.

According to reports, the increasingly tense back-and-forth contributed to Trump's decision to cut the interview short, bringing the high-profile television appearance to an abrupt end and sparking renewed debate over the president's claims and his relationship with the media.
