On June 26, soldiers from Sector 6 moved on Gero Highground in Jos South Local Government Area following reports of terrorist activity in the region. The troops faced gunfire from suspects who used livestock as shields during the firefight.
Reinforcements arrived quickly and pushed the attackers to abandon their position. Troops pursued them, killing some while others managed to escape into the surrounding terrain.
