Trader jailed 3 months for stealing phone

A Magistrate Court in Jos on  Wednesday sentenced a 19  -year-old trader, Emmanuel Amali  to three  months in a  correctional centre for stealing a phone.

The Judge, Shawomi Bokkos sentenced Amali after he pleaded guilty to a one count charge.

The convict was however given an option of N10, 000 fine.

Bokkos said the punishment would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in similar acts.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Monday Dabit , had told the court that the case was reported on Jan. 25, at the Divisional Police Station Bassa  by  Akaso Igmala, the complainant.

The prosecutor said that the convict trespassed into the house, entering through the window and stole an itel phone before he was caught.

The offence, he said, is punishable under the Plateau Penal Code Law.
