Tinubu’s Foreign Trip Ban Praised by Support Group for Curbing Frivolous Spending

The Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG) has lauded President Bola Tinubu’s decision to ban foreign trips for senior government officials, citing its potential to reduce frivolous travels and curb the use of public funds.

The group believes this move will have a positive impact on Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserve and set an example for state governors to follow.

According to the chairman of TMSG, Jesutega Onokpasa, the decision to stop frivolous foreign trips at taxpayers’ expense is a welcome development that should have salutary effects on the foreign exchange reserve.

It will also reduce the cost of governance, as government departments and officials will no longer embark on unnecessary trips with costly estacodes.

The group also praised President Tinubu’s recent resolve to implement the Oronsaye report by merging government agencies with overlapping functions, which would save the country a significant amount of funds.

It urged state governors to take a cue from the President and implement similar measures to stem the tide of leakages in the country’s finances and steady the decline in its foreign reserves.

TMSG emphasized that fiscal discipline is critical for national discipline, and that Nigeria must present itself as a serious country in the comity of nations.

It added that the ban on foreign trips for government officials would show that the ‘giant of Africa’ is no longer willing to accept ‘anything goes.’

The Tinubu Media Support Group’s endorsement of President Tinubu’s ban on foreign trips for government officials highlights the potential benefits of the decision, including the reduction of frivolous spending, improvement in the foreign exchange reserve, and setting an example for state governors to follow.
