Tinubu Urges Meta to Support Nigeria’s Digital Transformation: Meta Deepens Partnership with Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu met with a delegation from Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, to discuss deepening the partnership between Nigeria and the social media giant.

The President urged Meta to support Nigeria’s digital transformation and help the country become Africa’s technology hub.

During the meeting at Aso Rock, Abuja, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of digital technology in enhancing the sustainability of small businesses, expanding opportunities across sectors, and propelling Nigeria to become the ICT hub of Africa.

He highlighted his administration’s commitment to this goal through the 3MTT (3 Million Nigerian Youths in Digital Technology) program, which aims to train three million Nigerian youths in digital technology and essential skills before deploying them to innovation hubs across the nation.

Sir Nick Clegg, former UK Deputy Prime Minister and Meta’s President of Global Affairs, commended President Tinubu for an executive order that enabled the landing of the Meta-backed deep-sea cable in Nigeria.

He agreed with the President that Nigeria cannot afford to be left behind in this age of technological advancements.

President Tinubu stressed the importance of Nigeria’s youth population in achieving digital economic expansion, stating that they are the most critical asset in Nigeria’s arsenal.

He emphasized the need to prepare the youth for an AI-enabled future and make them ready to compete and participate in the global economy.

As Nigeria continues to forge partnerships with global tech giants like Meta, the country’s digital transformation is set to accelerate, positioning it as a leader in the African technology landscape.
